Western Growers, September 10, 2019

Western Growers toured American Farms this summer to learn directly from growers what challenges we are currently facing, trends being seen as well as fun, farm facts! Check out our segments.

Strohauer Farms grows different varieties of onions and shallots but one problem they continue to run into at their farm is hail. Hail creates both crop and soil problems making it difficult to grow and harvest under these conditions.
Shallots fall somewhere between garlic and onion, making their flavor so distinct yet so delicious! You can expect to see shallots become more mainstream as more food services begin to use them and more consumer begin to eat them.
Amber's family have been growing potatoes since 1901, making her a fourth generation farmer! The number of potato growers in northern Colorado has shrunk due to factors such as water, labor, and oil.
Amber Strohauer of Strohauer Farms explains the process of harvesting organic potatoes in Colorado and shares the difference in harvesting between organic and conventional potato harvesting
While they have been growing organic since 2006, Strohauer Farms' real niche is Fingerling Potatoes! Strohauer Fingerling packages come with three different colors of potatoes and are extremely convenient when trying to reduce cooking times.
